Background · Thugz Mansion
A heaven for people who found no peace in life: in Thugz Mansion, Tupac imagined a place after death where departed friends, musicians, and role models come together. The song was released in 2002 as the first single from Better Dayz and ranks among the most successful posthumous Tupac songs in the US.
A Mansion in the Afterlife: Acoustic with Nas, Soulful with Hamilton
Tupac describes the afterlife as a mansion where there is no police, no hunger, and no enmity; he mentions people who went before him.
Better Dayz features both versions: the acoustic one with guitar and verses from Nas-with whom Tupac was still feuding in 1996-and a soulful one with singer Anthony Hamilton on the chorus.
Nominated at MTV and the Source Awards
A video was made for the "Nas Acoustic" version featuring Nas and J. Phoenix. It was nominated for Best Rap Video at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards; the Source Awards nominated the song for Single of the Year.
