Background · Runnin' (CD Maxi 1997)
Twice the same song and four tracks by other artists: this CD maxi is the second edition of Runnin', the song recorded in 1993 by 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. While the first single contained only the collaborative track in two versions, the Mergela label packed additional tracks by other artists onto this CD maxi.
Marketed as a collector's item after the death of both rappers
When the CD was released in 1997, Tupac and Biggie were already dead. Tupac died in September 1996, Biggie in March 1997. On the cover, the single was therefore marketed as a collector's item. Discogs quotes, in essence, the note that this was the pair's first and last song together. That is not entirely accurate: according to Wikipedia, Runnin' is one of a few songs the two recorded together, but by far the best known from the time before their falling-out.
The remaining four tracks are not by Tupac. 187um and Deep Cover/187um point to rapper and producer Cold 187um of Above the Law. The artists behind He Made My Heart Sang and No Surrender are not clearly attributed on this release.
