Background · Regulate (Warren G & Nate Dogg)
In the spring of 1994, Regulate by Warren G and Nate Dogg was the major hit from the soundtrack to Above the Rim. That the single is listed here anyway has a good reason: the maxi-single features two Tupac tracks that were otherwise nowhere to be found for a long time.
Robbery in Long Beach and Birdie in the Video
Warren G and Nate Dogg recount an evening in Long Beach where a robbery escalates, built on a sample of Michael McDonald's I Keep Forgettin'. The video connects the story with scenes from Above the Rim, in which Tupac plays the gangster Birdie; he makes a brief appearance in it.
Rare B-Sides: Stretch, Treach, and Late Remixes
Pain was created with Stretch of Live Squad and is one of the harder tracks from the period between Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. and Thug Life. A newly produced version appeared in 2007 on Nu-Mixx Klazzics Vol. 2.
Loyal to the Game with Treach of Naughty by Nature and Riddler returned in 2004 as the title track of the album Loyal to the Game, there newly produced by Eminem and featuring G-Unit instead of Treach and Riddler.
Four Tracks on the European Pressing
Shown here is the maxi-single with four tracks, which Discogs lists as a 1994 European CD and 12".
According to Wikipedia, the maxi-single also included Lord G's Mi Monie Rite; on the edition shown here, the track is missing. The European pressing thus brings together precisely the two Tupac B-sides that were missing from regular albums for a long time.
