If My Homie Calls

The anger of Trapped and the tragedy of Brenda's Got a Baby were followed by a noticeably warmer tone. With the third single from 2Pacalypse Now, Tupac made a promise to his companions from the days before his success: whoever stood by him back then can rely on him now.

Loyalty Instead of Bragging

The song looks back on youth in the Bay Area and the friends Tupac grew up with. Instead of boasting about his newfound fame, he placed loyalty front and center. It was a theme that would accompany him all the way to the Outlawz. Big D the Impossible, who also produced Brenda's Got a Baby, backed the track with a relaxed, funky beat.

From the Double A-Side to “Yo! MTV Raps”

Together with Brenda's Got a Baby, the song was released in early 1992 as a double A-side. In March 1992, the single entered the rap charts and reached No. 3 in early May.

The video is predominantly in black and white, but features color accents in red, blue, and sepia. In 1992, Tupac also performed the song on the show Yo! MTV Raps.
