“Biggie & Tupac”: Director Broomfield Corrects Murder Theory

Following Duane Davis's arrest, Nick Broomfield admits: The theory in “Biggie & Tupac” that Suge Knight ordered the murder was wrong.

Following the arrest of Duane Davis, Nick Broomfield conceded in Rolling Stone that his 2002 film Biggie & Tupac was wrong on one point. In it, the British documentary filmmaker supported the theory of former LAPD detective Russell Poole that Suge Knight had ordered Tupac’s murder because Tupac wanted to leave Death Row.

Poole Was Mistaken About Tupac, Right About Biggie

That, according to Broomfield, had not been correct. While it was true that Tupac wanted to leave, it was hard to imagine Knight sitting next to him in the car. Poole was mistaken on this point as well, but was right about Biggie.

Altercation with Anderson and the Question of Police Officers

Tupac had tangled with Orlando Anderson, whom Broomfield describes as a Crips hitman, and provoked retaliation with his gangster persona. Broomfield suspects that charges in the Tupac case took so long partly because the question of Biggie’s killers and involved police officers would inevitably follow.

Davis was presumed innocent at this time; the statements represent Broomfield’s opinion.
