"Last Man Standing": Nick Broomfield Delivers Sequel
In 2021, Nick Broomfield targeted Suge Knight again: His doc 'Last Man Standing' arrived as a sequel to 'Biggie and Tupac' in theaters and on television.
Nearly two decades after his 2002 film Biggie and Tupac, Nick Broomfield returned: in 2021, the British director delivered the sequel with Last Man Standing: Suge Knight and the Murders of Biggie and Tupac. The Guardian reviewed the film on June 30. The Source reported on July 28 that Gravitas Ventures had acquired it for a U.S. theatrical release on August 20; a review of the television version followed in September.
Knight Is Back in Prison, Poole Supplies the Allegations
At the center is Suge Knight, the former head of Death Row Records, who was back in prison at the time. Broomfield takes up allegations by former LAPD detective Russell Poole that Knight ordered the murder of Biggie. The director says he is convinced the Los Angeles police were involved in Biggie’s murder. That is the director’s conviction, not a fact established in court.
The Guardian praised a “bleakly compelling” film that uncovered deeper truths about America. The predecessor is covered under Biggie and Tupac; on the person, see Suge Knight.
