Murder Charge Against “Keffe D”: Defense Moves for Dismissal
Earlier assurances of protection and long delay: Attorney Carl Arnold seeks to dismiss the murder charge against Duane “Keffe D” Davis before trial begins.
The proceedings surrounding Tupac Shakur’s death are meant to end before the trial even begins: On January 6, 2025, the defense for Duane “Keffe D” Davis moved to dismiss the murder indictment. Davis’ lawyer Carl Arnold justified the move citing the long delay and so-called proffer agreements: under these protective arrangements, federal and local authorities had reportedly assured Davis that his statements would not be used against him. Yet precisely those statements formed the foundation of the indictment.
First Compton Police Officers, Then Sean Combs
According to the motion, Davis stated in 1998 that Compton police officers had fired the shots on behalf of Suge Knight. Ten years later, he recounted a different version, which included an alleged one-million-dollar bounty Sean Combs was said to have offered. Combs has denied any involvement for years.
Davis has been in custody since his arrest in September 2023 and has pleaded not guilty; he is presumed innocent. The full background is described on the page The Investigation.
