Tupac Murder Case: Duane "Keffe D" Davis Indicted
27 years after the crime, police arrest Duane Davis. A grand jury indicts the only surviving occupant of the vehicle used in the crime for murder.
On September 29, 2023, Las Vegas police arrested 60-year-old Duane “Keffe D” Davis near his home in Henderson. A few hours later, a grand jury indicted the man, considered the only surviving occupant of the vehicle used in the crime, for murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The indictment also cites a gang motive. Tupac had been shot on September 7, 1996, and died on September 13. At the time of his arrest, Davis was presumed innocent.
Death Ordered as “On-Site Commander”
According to prosecutors, Davis did not fire the shots himself. As the “on-site commander,” he allegedly ordered the death and obtained the weapon to take revenge on Tupac and Suge Knight. His nephew Orlando Anderson, who was killed in 1998, is considered the shooter.
Own Statements Revive the Investigation
Police stated that Davis’s own statements in his book Compton Street Legend and in interviews revived the investigation in 2018. The background: The Investigation.
As of October 2026: A jury in Las Vegas found Davis guilty on August 31, 2026. The verdict is not final; the defense has announced an appeal.
