Tupac's Greatest Hits Overtakes Abbey Road on the Billboard 200

On September 12, 2023, one day before the 27th anniversary of his death, Tupac moved past the Beatles. His compilation album Greatest Hits, released in 1998, reached a new longevity record on the Billboard 200: it charted on the album rankings for the 491st time, placing it exactly one week ahead of the Beatles’ Abbey Road from 1969. The Tupac album’s peak position was No. 3.

Only Kendrick Lamar and Eminem Have Charted Longer

Vibe attributes this to tracks such as “California Love,” “Changes,” “Hit ‘Em Up,” and “Hail Mary.” Among hip-hop albums with the longest chart runs, it ranks near the top, but still trails Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city with 567 weeks and Eminem’s Curtain Call with 648 weeks. The figure illustrates how steadily Tupac’s catalog continues to be heard even 27 years after his death.
