Estate dispute: Sekyiwa Shakur demands an independent audit
Jewelry worth $217,700 with no list: Sekyiwa Shakur's lawyers challenge Whalley's accounting and demand a court audit of the estate.
Six months after the lawsuit against trustee Tom Whalley, Sekyiwa Shakur’s lawyers followed up on July 25, 2022. A judge had ordered Whalley to submit a full accounting of the trust by June 30. But the report, the lawyers argued, falls “woefully short” of legal requirements.
Whalley listed only very general asset categories, such as jewelry valued at $217,700 without an inventory of the pieces. The lawyers spoke of a “hide and control strategy” and asked the court for an audit.
Whalley cites “absolute discretion”
Whalley had defended himself in writing in March: the accounting had been commissioned, and the trust granted him “absolute discretion” to retain items from Tupac’s property to generate money for the estate. Many pieces were on view in the exhibition Wake Me When I’m Free. The reports do not mention a ruling by the court. On those involved: Sekyiwa Shakur.
