Dispute Over Afeni's Estate: Tupac's Sister Sues Trustee Tom Whalley

More than $5.5 million and personal heirlooms: Tupac's sister Sekyiwa sues trustee Tom Whalley. Nothing has been decided in court.

Tom Whalley once signed Tupac to Interscope and has served as trustee since the death of Afeni Shakur in 2016. On January 10, 2022, Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa Shakur, together with the Tupac Shakur Foundation, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against him, the executor of her mother’s estate.

More Than $5.5 Million in Five Years

According to reports by Billboard and Rolling Stone, the lawsuit accuses Whalley of making himself manager of Amaru Entertainment, the label that releases much of Tupac’s music. Over five years, he allegedly paid himself more than $5.5 million from it. That, the lawsuit claims, is a conflict of interest and enrichment at the expense of the beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that the estate is withholding personal items that Afeni inherited from Tupac and that, according to the filing, should go to Sekyiwa: cars, gold records, jewelry, art, and clothing. Whalley later called the allegations “offensive” and “legally baseless.” Nothing has been established in court so far. How the dispute continued is covered in the report from July 2022.
