Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017: Snoop Dogg's Induction Speech for Tupac
Not as a superhero, but as a homie: How Snoop Dogg and Alicia Keys honored Tupac at his 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Not the “superhero,” but the human being was what Snoop Dogg wanted to show: “Tupac, the actual human being.” On April 7, 2017, he accepted the honor at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on behalf of Tupac, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had been selected since December 20, 2016.
Parasailing with Suge Knight at the Wheel
In his speech, according to Rolling Stone, Snoop was not just focused on the actor or rapper; above all, what mattered to him was the homie. Billboard highlighted a story in which Tupac went parasailing with Snoop while Suge Knight steered the boat.
Alicia Keys at the Piano, Companions on the Mic
Afterward, Alicia Keys played a medley of Tupac songs at the piano, including I Ain’t Mad at Cha, Dear Mama, and Changes. Snoop and YG rapped a duet (Rolling Stone names “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted”, Billboard “Gangsta Party”). Treach performed “Hail Mary”, and T.I. Keep Ya Head Up.
HBO broadcast the ceremony on April 29. Tupac Shakur thereby became the sixth rap act in the Hall.
