Three Lawsuits Against the Sell-Off: Tupac's Estate Goes to Court
Driver's license, passport, and notebooks: In late March 2017, the Afeni Shakur Trust fought the trade in Tupac's belongings with three lawsuits.
In March 2017, Tupac’s estate took legal action against the trade in his personal belongings. According to Billboard, Howard King, attorney for the estate of Afeni Shakur, filed three lawsuits-the first in a series.
Lawsuits Against Partners and Dealers
They are directed against Tupac’s former manager, his former production partner, and the dealer Moments in Time. The allegation: memorabilia as well as audio and video recordings were being offered and sold without the right to do so. The Afeni Shakur Trust, heir to Tupac’s property, wants his driver’s license, passport, handwritten lyrics, and notebooks returned.
39 Items on the Day of the Hall of Fame
The “Black Heritage” auction at Alexander Historical Auctions in Brooklyn remained unaffected. It was scheduled for April 7, the day of the Hall of Fame ceremony. Slated for sale were 39 items from Tupac, including lyrics to “I Ain’t Mad at Cha” and “Let Em Have It”, his first publishing contract, and a signed Koran. The auction house maintains that the items were legally acquired; the estate’s attorneys see things differently.
