Suge Knight as the Target: Lawyer and Son Dispute New Documentary
Was Suge Knight the real target? A documentary claimed Knight's endorsement, but his lawyer, son, and ex-wife promptly rejected the theory.
It was not Tupac Shakur who was meant to die, but Suge Knight: with this claim, filmmakers Michael Douglas Carlin and Richard Bond went public in early April 2017. Knight had allegedly confirmed the theory of their film Tupac Assassination III: Battle for Compton through his attorney, Thaddeus Culpepper. According to this, Knight himself was the target of the September 7, 1996 attack, and Tupac merely a collateral victim. The documentary names Knight’s then-wife Sharitha Golden and former Death Row head of security Reggie Wright Jr. as the masterminds.
Lawyer, Son, and Ex-Wife Dispute the Claim
The other side responded promptly. Culpepper told AllHipHop that he had neither commented on Tupac nor submitted anything in writing on Knight’s behalf. Knight’s namesake son called the report a “publicity stunt” on Instagram. Golden also dismissed the theory as “ridiculous,” according to Billboard.
In the end, all that is documented is that this claim was made and that it was denied. For the investigations and the known theories, see Investigations and Theories; for the series, see the page Tupac Assassination.
