Grammy Museum Opens Tupac Exhibit "All Eyez on Me"

Handwritten notes, tapes, and the 1996 Versace suit: The Grammy Museum displays Tupac's estate-while John Singleton hesitates on the biopic.

On February 2, 2015, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles opened the exhibition All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur. The show was scheduled to run through April 22. The material came from the estate managed by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur.

Notes, Tapes, and the Versace Suit

According to Rolling Stone, the museum displayed handwritten notes, poems, and lyrics alongside interview and performance footage, as well as a tape box. Also on view were studio notes from the first recording session after his release from prison, and clothing, including the Versace suit from the 1996 Grammys.

Singleton Warns of Tupac’s Ghost

At the opening, a seven-member panel held a discussion that included Chuck D, director John Singleton, and rapper YG. When asked about the status of the Tupac film, Singleton was evasive: he wanted to make the film the way he envisioned it, and Tupac’s ghost “would come back and haunt my ass” if it wasn’t done right, Billboard reported. A few weeks later he walked away from the project; see Singleton leaves the biopic.
