Fatal Hit-and-Run in Compton: Suge Knight Surrenders to Police

One dead in Compton: After a fatal hit-and-run, Death Row founder Suge Knight surrenders to police and remains in custody on a murder charge.

A confrontation in Compton ended fatally on January 29, 2015: in a parking lot, Suge Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, struck two men with his pickup truck. A 55-year-old died, and a 51-year-old was injured. Knight turned himself in to police on the morning of January 30 and was charged with murder, attempted murder, and hit-and-run.

Dispute on the Film Set: Accounts Differ

The incident was preceded by an argument on the sidelines of filming a promotional video for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. Accounts differed: the Sheriff’s Department described an act followed by flight. Knight’s attorney stated, by contrast, that his client had been attacked by two men and inadvertently struck the other two while fleeing.

No Bail: Knight Remains in Custody

The $2 million bail was revoked. Knight pleaded not guilty on February 3 and remained in custody. Billboard recalled that his label had Tupac under contract during the final months of his life. Years passed before a verdict: the case only ended in 2018, see Suge Knight sentenced to 28 years in prison.
