'One Nation': Tupac's letter about a planned group album
A 90s letter reveals Tupac's plan: OutKast, Scarface, E-40, and the Outlawz were set to unite the coasts on the 'One Nation' album.
A handwritten letter to a friend, presumably from the mid-nineties: in it, Tupac announced a “group album” called One Nation for the “late summer”. The project would have united rappers from the East, West, and South coasts. In early February 2015, the document became public.
From OutKast to Smif-n-Wessun
In the letter, Tupac named OutKast, Scarface, E-40, Buckshot, the Outlawz, Greg Nice, and Smif-n-Wessun. Okayplayer first reported on the discovery; Rolling Stone, Vibe, and The Source picked up the news. The reports do not reveal who received the letter back then or where it is kept today.
Questlove confirms the plans
Okayplayer had the project confirmed by Questlove: The Roots, too, had been approached for the album in the nineties. The project was not realized during Tupac’s lifetime. The title One Nation resurfaced later, for example with the report Outlawz release One Nation.
