The Outlawz Sue Death Row and Suge Knight for 4.5 Million Dollars
In April 2000, Tupac's associates went to court: The Outlawz sued Death Row, Interscope, and imprisoned Suge Knight for 4.5 million dollars.
The Outlawz have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against their former label. As AllHipHop reported on April 12, 2000, the group demanded 4.5 million dollars from Death Row Records, Interscope Records, Suge Publishing, Suge Knight Films, and from Suge Knight personally, who was in prison at that time.
Eleven Allegations, an Expired Contract
The complaint listed eleven counts, including unfair business practices, breach of contract, and violations of racketeering laws. The Outlawz had signed the contract with Death Row in 1997. According to their account, the label failed to inform them of an extension, which is why the contract had expired around May 6, 1999. Afterwards, Death Row released the collaborative album Still I Rise.
Dispute Over the Video “Death Row Uncut”
In parallel, the group’s attorneys sent a cease-and-desist letter to Death Row and Interscope. Sales of the video Death Row Uncut were to be halted as long as the Outlawz were not adequately paid for it.
