Biggie Case: Investigators Probe Ex-Officer David Mack, "Shrine" for Tupac Found in His Home
In December 1999, it emerged: Los Angeles police probed if ex-officer David Mack plotted Biggie's murder with Suge Knight. Mack denied everything.
The investigation into the death of The Notorious B.I.G. developed a lead inside the Los Angeles police itself. As CBS News reported on December 10, 1999, citing the Los Angeles Times and confidential police files, detectives were investigating whether former LAPD officer David Mack conspired with Suge Knight to have Biggie killed on March 9, 1997. A witness from Biggie’s motorcade reportedly saw Mack at the crime scene.
A “Shrine” for Tupac
Mack was serving a 14-year prison sentence for a bank robbery at the time. During a search of his home, investigators found a “shrine” to Tupac Shakur, according to a police officer. Mack was a friend and former partner of Rafael Perez, who was at the center of the Rampart scandal involving falsified reports and planted evidence.
Mack’s attorney called the allegations “absolutely ridiculous”. Knight’s attorney stated that his client did not know Mack. Knight was serving a nine-year sentence himself. No one was charged in the case, and both murder cases remained unsolved.
