"The Rose That Grew from Concrete": Tupac's Poems Published as a Book
In November 1999, MTV Books published "The Rose That Grew from Concrete," a poetry collection of 72 poems Tupac wrote from age 19 onward.
Three years after Tupac’s death, his poems were published as a book. On November 1, 1999, Pocket Books released The Rose That Grew from Concrete as a hardcover edition under the MTV Books imprint. The volume collects 72 poems that, according to the publisher, Tupac wrote from age 19 on.
A Look at the Person Behind the Rapper
The publisher describes the collection as an insight into Tupac’s most personal thoughts, which came to light only after his death, and as a reflection of his contradictions. A year later, the writings became an album: In November 2000, musicians and actors recited the poems on The Rose That Grew from Concrete (report from November 2000). In 2009, MTV Books reissued the book as a paperback with 176 pages.
