Judge Admits "Keffe D's" Book as Evidence

Despite defense objections: Judge Carli Kierny admits Duane 'Keffe D' Davis's memoir and gang evidence as evidence in the murder trial.

A ghostwriter had “made up” much of it, and the text did not clearly originate from Davis: with this argument, defense attorney Michael Sanft had moved to exclude the book and statements made to police. Judge Carli Kierny ruled otherwise on June 30, 2026: the memoir Compton Street Legend will be admitted as evidence in the murder trial against Duane “Keffe D” Davis. Davis had adopted the book as his own and urged people to buy it to learn “the real story.”

Voluntary Statements and Gang Evidence on Motive

Kierny also ruled that Davis was free to leave during disputed interrogations and did not speak involuntarily. However, she noted having “problems” with the 2008 interview. In addition, gang evidence may be used to show motive.

Prosecutor Marc DiGiacomo said that without the book, Davis likely would never have been charged. The ruling is not a finding of guilt, only of admissibility. Background: The investigation.
