Civil Lawsuit After 30 Years: Tupac's Family Goes to Court
Against Duane Davis and unnamed defendants: Tupac's family files a civil suit, also relying on a Netflix documentary about Sean Combs.
Thirty years after Tupac Shakur’s killing, his family is going to court: on April 28, 2026, they filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
So far, only Duane Davis is named as a defendant
So far, the only named defendant is Duane “Keffe D” Davis, along with an unspecified number of “John Doe” defendants whom the plaintiffs intend to identify over the course of the proceedings. Lawyers from the law firm Quinn Emanuel write that there remain individuals who were involved in the killing and have not been held accountable after 30 years. The family and their attorneys rely on grand jury transcripts and the Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning from December 2025.
Considerable space for Combs, but no lawsuit
The lawsuit is not expressly directed against Combs, but devotes considerable space to him. Combs has denied any involvement for years and called the film a “hit piece”. He has never been accused or charged in the Shakur case.
