Doubts Over Bail Money: Duane Davis Remains in Custody

A $112,500 down payment is ready, yet Duane Davis remains in custody: the judge doubts the source of the money from music manager Wack100.

Bail was set at $750,000, and Duane Davis was prepared to post $112,500 as a down payment. Even so, he was not released: on June 26, 2024, Judge Carli Kierny denied his release under house arrest. Davis had not demonstrated, she found, that the money came from legal sources.

Two Deposits Without Proof

The bank records lacked explanations for two deposits of $50,000 each. At a hearing on June 25, Davis had testified that the money came from music manager Cash “Wack100” Jones. Prosecutors suspected the payment was connected to a contract for Davis’s story; Wack100 had previously spoken of a series in an interview.

No Money for the Murder Story

In court, Wack100 said he supported Davis with bail because Davis was “a monumental figure in our community.” At the same time, he conceded that he says some things for entertainment. The judge wanted to prevent Davis from being paid for his account of the murder. “I have more questions than answers,” she said, and denied release. Davis remains presumed innocent until verdict.
