Bail Hearing Postponed: Prosecution Argues Davis Poses Danger to Witnesses
Jailhouse calls and a dispute over a "green light": In Las Vegas, the bail hearing for Duane Davis is postponed following allegations by the prosecution.
Intercepted phone calls and a dispute over witness protection: On January 2, 2024, the hearing on releasing Duane Davis on bail was postponed in Las Vegas. The prosecution had argued the week before that he would pose a danger if released.
Prosecution Warns of Danger to Witnesses
As evidence, prosecutors cited recordings of jailhouse phone calls and a list of names that Davis’s relatives had allegedly received. They pointed to an October call in which the phrase “green light” was used and warned that witnesses could be threatened.
The Interpretation Is “Flat-Out Wrong”
Court-appointed defense attorneys Robert Arroyo and Charles Cano requested a postponement to respond in writing. Arroyo told the AP he saw no evidence that any witness had been named or threatened. In their January 8 filing, the defense attorneys called the interpretation of “green light” “flat-out wrong” and stated that Davis had threatened no one during the conversations.
The Only Defendant Remains in Custody
As the only person charged so far in the Tupac case, Davis has been held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest on September 29, 2023. His trial was scheduled for June at the time. The presumption of innocence applied. Background: The Investigation.
