Death Row Albums Disappear from Streaming, Tupac's Remain
Snoop Dogg pulls Death Row classics from streaming. Only Tupac's albums stay online-because they were not included in the label purchase.
Over the weekend of March 12 and 13, 2022, fans noticed the gaps: major Death Row albums were missing from the big streaming services, including Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, and Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food. Billboard reported on March 14 that Snoop Dogg had removed them following his purchase of the label. Tupac’s All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati, by contrast, remained online-they were no longer part of the catalog Snoop bought from MNRK (see catalog report).
Too Little Money from Streaming: Snoop Plans His Own App
Snoop Dogg stated the reason on April 15 on Revolt’s Drink Champs podcast, as Billboard and Musikexpress reported: the platforms paid too little. He planned his own Death Row app; until then, the music was to live “in the metaverse.” On Tidal, the catalog remained available. More on the label: Death Row Records.
