Therapy in the Corona Crisis: Tupac's Foundation Supports Taraji P. Henson

$25,000 for mental health: How Tupac's foundation and Taraji P. Henson funded free online therapy during the Corona crisis.

In May 2020, actress Taraji P. Henson and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) joined forces for a relief effort during the Corona crisis. The Source reported it on May 6: Henson’s Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation (BLHF) and the TASF aimed to provide free psychological counseling to essential workers, such as those in healthcare and emergency services.

$25,000 via Matching Gift

The campaign operated through a matching gift: donations were matched to connect those affected with trained therapists online. According to the report, the TASF raised $25,000 as a grant for the BLHF. The BLHF had previously launched a free virtual therapy service in low-income communities.

No One Should Suffer in Silence

The TASF was founded by Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur. The report cited no further figures. Henson emphasized the core concern of the initiative: no one should suffer in silence, and the perception of mental health in the Black community must change.
