Ex-Detective Kading Calls for Arrest of "Keffe D"

Protected in interrogation, confessing on camera: Why ex-detective Greg Kading demanded the arrest of Duane "Keffe D" Davis in 2019 for Tupac's murder.

On the 23rd anniversary of Tupac’s death, the Las Vegas Review-Journal took stock with the verdict “no arrests.” Two months later, on November 22, 2019, former LAPD detective Greg Kading spoke to station KCAL/CBS Los Angeles: there was “clearly probable cause” against Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the uncle of suspect Orlando Anderson. XXL relayed this on November 25.

What Is in the Book Is Not Protected

Kading had questioned Davis in 2009 in connection with the murder of the Notorious B.I.G. During the interview, Davis reportedly confessed to Tupac’s murder and stated that he had given Anderson the gun. Due to an agreement, this conversation was not admissible in court. However, Davis later made public statements: in the BET series Death Row Chronicles (2018) and in his book Compton Street Legend (2019). Those, Kading argued, were not protected statements.

Charges Did Not Follow Until 2023

Following the BET broadcast, the Las Vegas police had stated that the case remained open and an arrest was not imminent. At the time, Kading’s push had no consequences. Davis was not charged until 2023 and was found guilty in August 2026; more in the earlier report and under Investigations.
