“City of Lies”: Johnny Depp Investigates in the First Trailer on Tupac and Biggie

Two unsolved murders and the search for answers: In May 2018, the first trailer for City of Lies was released. In it, Johnny Depp plays LAPD investigator Russell Poole, who teams up with a journalist (Forest Whitaker) to determine who was responsible for the deaths of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. rap.de pointed out that the cases remain unsolved and that numerous theories are circulating.

Theatrical release postponed after negative headlines

Originally, the film was scheduled to open in US theaters on September 7, 2018. As Musikexpress reported in August, the theatrical release was postponed due to persistent negative headlines surrounding the lead actor. However, the distributor hoped for a release before the end of the year. The subject matter is similar to the series Unsolved (see series premiere).
