Chuck Philips Posts Unreleased 1995 Tupac Recordings Online

Shortly after his release, amid the 'All Eyez On Me' sessions: Chuck Philips posted unreleased audio recordings with Tupac online in 2012.

In the fall of 1995, Chuck Philips visited Tupac at Can-Am Studios in the Los Angeles area. Tupac had recently been released from prison, and work on the album All Eyez On Me was beginning. In 1995, only shortened excerpts appeared in the newspaper. In early October 2012, Philips, formerly with the Los Angeles Times, posted the unreleased audio recordings of his interview online on SoundCloud.

Polite About the Shooting, 13 Songs in Four Days

According to the magazine juice (October 4), Tupac can be heard speaking in an unusually polite and friendly manner: he talks about the shooting at the New York studio, his imprisonment, and how burdensome both were. He says 13 songs were created in four days and plays demos, including “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” and “Picture Me Rollin’”. Friends and engineers can be heard in the background.

Juice called the material “pretty rare.” Philips commented on the recordings on his own website on October 11 (according to the English Wikipedia). The recordings are a historical audio source for the recording of the album. An earlier conversation with Philips can be found under Interviews.
