Frank Alexander Announces the Documentary "Tupac: Assassination"

Tupac's former bodyguard Frank Alexander produced a film about the night of the shooting. In August 2007, it was announced for October.

Eleven years after the shooting in Las Vegas, Frank Alexander returned with a new film. Tupac’s former bodyguard served as executive producer of Tupac: Assassination, a documentary about the night of September 7, 1996, and the weeks leading up to it. On August 22, 2007, AllHipHop announced the DVD for October 23. RJ Bond directed and also wrote the script; the film was released by Bond-Age Films and Step-N-Up Enterprises. The working title had been Tupac: Revelation.

A Film About Death, Not About Music

Bond clarified that it was not about Tupac’s art or life, but about his death and how it came about. According to AllHipHop, bodyguards were interviewed who had reportedly never been questioned by the police. Alexander himself was part of the convoy that night behind the black BMW that Suge Knight steered down the Strip with Tupac in the passenger seat.

For Alexander, it was not the first attempt to record his perspective. In 2000, he had published the book Got Your Back, followed in 2001 by the documentary Before I Wake.

The film was released in October 2007. In AllHipHop’s assessment, its allegations contributed to Las Vegas investigators traveling to Los Angeles in late 2007. Knight maintained his innocence.
