Eagle Rock Secures Tupac's Concert Film "Live at the House of Blues"
Arguably the last filmed performance: In June 2005, Eagle Rock acquired the worldwide rights to Tupac's 1996 House of Blues concert.
On June 22, 2005, Billboard reported two deals between Eagle Rock Entertainment and Death Row Records. For Tupac fans, the second was the more important one: Eagle Rock acquired the worldwide rights to Tupac Shakur: Live at the House of Blues.
The Last Filmed Performance
The recording originates from a concert in Los Angeles in 1996, where Snoop Dogg and the Outlawz were also on stage. Billboard wrote that it was considered Tupac’s last filmed performance before his death. Eagle Rock intended to release the concert worldwide in September on DVD, CD, and UMD through its label Eagle Vision. The DVD was to include an exclusive interview with Death Row founder Suge Knight and several of Tupac’s music videos.
Under the second contract, Eagle Rock took over the marketing of the Death Row music catalog outside North America beginning April 1, 2006. The CDs were to be repackaged and released with bonus material.
Platinum for the Video
The concert film sold well: On April 27, 2006, the RIAA certified Live at the House of Blues platinum as a video release. In the fall of 2006, a special edition followed, which an earlier report covered.
