Suge Knight Released After Ten Months in Prison

The Death Row boss spent ten months in prison over an alleged punch to a parking attendant. He was released on April 22, 2004.

Suge Knight was free once again. As AllHipHop reported on April 23, 2004, the head of Death Row Records was released from custody the previous day. He had spent ten months in prison for a probation violation, most of the time at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California. He had already served time there following the brawl at a casino in Las Vegas in 1996.

A Controversial Decision

A parole board in California had concluded that Knight had punched a parking attendant, violating the conditions of his 2001 release. His lawyers disputed this. They presented statements from eight witnesses and a surveillance video, and brought in the parking attendant himself, who denied having been punched. Knight had been arrested before the allegation was thoroughly reviewed, said his attorney Rose Kogerman.

Back in the Office

According to the report, Knight spent his first day of freedom with family and friends, and planned to be back in the Death Row office the next day. On the agenda were promotion for Kurupt’s album Against the Grain, scheduled for release on April 27, and a compilation album to benefit the families of American soldiers in Iraq.
