Afeni Shakur Donates 15,000 Dollars to Her Former Elementary School in Lumberton

In late November 2002, Tupac's mother donated 15,000 dollars to her former North Carolina school. Better Dayz proceeds were to go to his foundation.

Afeni Shakur gave back to her hometown. As MTV News reported on November 27, 2002, citing the AP news agency, she donated 15,000 dollars to W.H. Knuckles Elementary School in Lumberton, North Carolina. She had attended this elementary school herself as a child.

Proceeds for the Foundation

At the same time, she wanted to pass on proceeds from Better Dayz. The double album of unreleased recordings by her son had just been released, and Afeni Shakur had shared responsibility for it as executive producer. The money was to go to the Tupac Shakur Foundation, which trained aspiring artists.

According to MTV, the foundation was planning at the time to open the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in 2003, TASCA for short, featuring a museum of Tupac’s work and memorabilia. What became of the plans in Stone Mountain can be found under Foundation and Stone Mountain.
