Raid at Tha Row: Special Unit Searches Suge Knight's Label
On November 14, 2002, police searched the offices of Suge Knight's label Tha Row over several homicides; Knight was not considered a suspect.
Around five in the morning on November 14, 2002, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s special unit arrived outside the offices of Tha Row Records on Wilshire Boulevard. The label of Suge Knight, formerly Death Row, was one of 17 targets. Search warrants were also executed in Compton, Long Beach, Malibu, and Las Vegas, as AllHipHop reported. According to the Associated Press, investigators also searched Knight’s home in Malibu.
Knight Not a Suspect
According to rap.de, 17 people were sought who were accused of murder or conspiracy to commit murder. According to investigators, the wanted individuals had connections to Tha Row. Knight himself was not considered a suspect, a Sheriff’s spokesperson explained. Police would not confirm whether the cases also involved Tupac and Biggie. According to rap.de, police sources said some of those arrested could be connected to these murders.
Tha Row was the reboot of the once powerful label. Following Tupac’s death, the departure of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, and Knight’s imprisonment, it had lost its prominence. The best-known artists in 2002 were Crooked I and Kurupt.
