Nas Reenacts the Shootings of Tupac and Biggie in the Video for 'Got Ur Self A…'
In the video for his single 'Got Ur Self A…', Nas reenacted the final scenes of Tupac and Biggie. He had called Suge Knight beforehand.
Nas commemorates two deceased colleagues in his new music video. In the clip for ‘Got Ur Self A…’, he reenacts the shootings of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., as MTV News reported on December 7, 2001. The song is taken from his album Stillmatic, which was scheduled for release on December 18.
‘They died for hip-hop’
He had known both personally, Nas said. While Tupac had attacked him in songs, according to Nas, the two reconciled before Tupac’s death. With the video, he wanted to honor both men’s love of hip-hop and show the scenes in which they were last seen: ‘I love hip-hop, and they died for hip-hop.’ No one should forget them.
Calls in advance
Because he anticipated objections, Nas called Suge Knight in advance, who reportedly reacted ‘real cool.’ P. Diddy, by contrast, was visibly moved upon viewing it. Biggie’s mother was also informed, and her response was still pending. Nas viewed the weapons in the song as a warning, not promotion. Biggie and Pac were ‘gone because of senseless violence,’ and that was precisely what viewers were supposed to see.
