Death Row Announces 'Tha Dogg Pound 2002', with Tupac on 'Don't Stop'
Suge Knight's label planned to release an album by Tha Dogg Pound from older recordings on July 31, 2001. Tupac is featured on 'Don't Stop'.
Death Row Records reaches into its archives once again. On July 11, 2001, MTV News reported that Suge Knight’s label planned to release an album by Tha Dogg Pound on July 31: Tha Dogg Pound 2002. The most recent recordings on it were about a year and a half old.
Reworked Beats
They had been selected by Gregory Hutchinson, known as Cold 187um from Above the Law and now head of production at Death Row. He supplemented around 70 percent of the beats, mostly produced by Daz, with new bass and synthesizer tracks. Added to this were verses by new Death Row artists Crooked I and SKG.
Tupac Against Bad Boy
Tupac is heard on “Don’t Stop”. There, he lashes out at Bad Boy Records and calls himself a “Biggie annihilator”, a jab at The Notorious B.I.G.. Kurupt had nothing against the release: Knight held the rights, so it was “about time”. Daz could not be reached by MTV, but had said in April that he had no objections as long as he earned a share from sales. The two had released an album of new recordings in May under the name Dillinger & Young Gotti. According to Hutchinson, Death Row held recordings for at least two more albums by the group.
