Tupac's Estate Settles Legal Dispute with Orlando Anderson's Heirs

In late July 2000, Tupac's estate and Orlando Anderson's heirs reached an out-of-court settlement. No financial details were disclosed.

The dispute between Tupac’s estate and the family of Orlando Anderson has ended without a trial. AllHipHop reported on August 2, 2000, that both sides had settled the previous week. No financial details were disclosed.

Lawsuit and Countersuit Since 1997

The dispute began with the brawl in the lobby of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, a few hours before the shooting of Tupac. Anderson, a gang member, clashed there with Tupac and his bodyguard, and surveillance video showed Suge Knight also kicking him (more on the brawl). In 1997, Anderson sued Tupac’s camp and Knight for damages. Four days later, the estate filed a wrongful death countersuit: Anderson was responsible for Tupac’s death.

Anderson was shot dead on May 29, 1998. His heirs continued to litigate after that. They accused Tupac’s estate of having broken an oral agreement to settle the 1997 dispute for 78,000 dollars. With the settlement, this case was also resolved. A court never ruled on Anderson’s role on the night of the crime.
