A white Cadillac alongside the black BMW: On September 7, 1996, Tupac was shot and critically injured near the Las Vegas Strip.
On Saturday, September 7, 1996, at around 23:15, Tupac Shakur was shot in Las Vegas. He was sitting in the passenger seat of a black BMW 750 driven by Suge Knight, traveling in a convoy after the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon. Near the Strip, a white Cadillac pulled up alongside the car, and shots were fired from it. Tupac was hit at least four times, Knight grazed on the head by a fragment.
On Monday, Tupac was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of University Medical Center. Police were searching for four men and had arrested no one. Outside the hospital, friends and family had been keeping vigil since the night of the shooting; Jesse Jackson, who was in the city for a voter registration campaign, called the attack painful to see.
The sequence of events that night and the days that followed are detailed in The 1996 Las Vegas Shooting and Tupac’s Final Week.
