Six voices share the microphone over a funk sample from the eighties: All About U is the biggest ensemble song on All Eyez on Me. Alongside Tupac you hear Snoop Doggy Dogg, Nate Dogg, the Outlawz members Yaki Kadafi and Hussein Fatal, and Dru Down from Oakland. The song is about women and mistrust, but above all it is a dense group portrait of the West Coast at the time.
One funk sample, many voices
Johnny “J” and Tupac built the beat from Cameo’s funk record Candy (1986). Because the sample provides the musical foundation, Cameo frontman Larry Blackmon is among the credited writers. Johnny “J” worked on eleven tracks of the album.
When exactly All About U was made could not be verified. The song was recorded during the October 13 to December 18, 1995 sessions at Can-Am Studios. The many voices Death Row gathered there in those weeks are what make the album sound so dense. According to Wikipedia, Yaki Kadafi and Hussein Fatal appear with uncredited verses. Dru Down was in the sessions, according to an XXL interview cited by American Songwriter.
For Kadafi and Fatal, the song documents their early role at Tupac’s side. Kadafi died on November 10, 1996, only months after the album’s release (Outlawz). Nate Dogg, listed as a guest, died in 2011.
Snoop’s exit changes the song
Because Snoop Doggy Dogg left Death Row in a dispute in 1998, his verse is missing from later releases. For the compilation Greatest Hits (1998), Snoop’s part was replaced by a verse from Top Dogg, which cut the running time to 4:36.
According to Wikipedia, a “solo video version” with Nate Dogg also circulates and is listed as an extra track from the album sessions. A live version with the Outlawz appeared in 2004 on Live.
Kim Kardashian and the video rumor
The music video was shot in 1996 and exists in two versions. Years later it sparked speculation: in September 2019 Kim Kardashian said on a podcast that as a teenager she had walked a runway with friends in a Tupac video. Media matched that description to the clip for All About U.
XXL, however, pointed out that the clip was shot in 1996, not 1994. According to XXL, Kardashian denied by tweet that she was in this particular video. Whether she appears in it therefore remains unsettled. All that is documented is her statement that she sees herself in a Tupac video.
Millions of streams for an album track
Although the song was never a single, it has drawn millions of plays on streaming. According to kworb.net, the album version had reached about 194 million Spotify streams by October 7, 2026, and a second Spotify version another 24 million. On Greatest Hits the track sits on disc 2 (position 11). A certification is not documented in the sources reviewed.
