Ten Years Later, Companions Remember
Around ten years after his death, people who crossed paths with Tupac in music, film, and politics have their say in the book. According to the publisher, contributors include Jada Pinkett Smith, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Nikki Giovanni, Kevin Powell, Common, E-40, and Sonia Sanchez.
Their memories are accompanied by personal snapshots. The photographs show the many roles Tupac took on during his short life: as a friend, artist, activist, and star.
Memorial Volume for Fans, No Critical Analysis
The volume sees itself as a memorial book with a clear fan orientation, yet gathers prominent and knowledgeable voices. The book thrives on personal anecdotes and images, not on analysis or research. Critical notes can hardly be expected in a work created with the family.
For fans who want to see Tupac through the eyes of friends and colleagues, it is a welcome addition. Anyone looking for reliable facts is better off reaching for a biography.
