Thugangel.de: Tribute to Tupac and the Documentary 'Thug Angel'
In April 2006, Thugangel.de returned online: no longer as a community, but as a tribute to Tupac and a thank-you to the documentary 'Thug Angel'.
In April 2006, a familiar web address returned to the net. On April 29, the site announced that Thugangel.de was back online. Unlike the main project at the time, Thuglove.de, the domain was only meant to be a tribute to Tupac, and a thank-you to the makers of the documentary Thug Angel.
The Fan Community Keeps Its Old Address
Thugangel.de was not a new offering. Archive captures show the domain as early as 2002. In April 2006, it carried the title “Thugangel.de, The Fan Community.” According to the post, the site’s fan community had long carried this name. After the switch to a new project name, the old address was to be preserved for fans of the name.
The author wrote that the DVD had shown him early on that Tupac was more than just another rapper: someone who tied his music closely to emotion.
Peter Spirer’s Film and Rapping “from the Pit of the Stomach”
Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel, The Life of an Outlaw is a documentary by Peter Spirer. Information on the release year varies between 2000 and 2002. It works with archival footage and interviews, including with Shock G of Digital Underground, one of Tupac’s early producers. Well known is his observation that Tupac did not rap from the nose or throat, but “from the pit of the stomach.” More on the documentary in the filmography.
From DVD Promotional Text to Placeholder Page
Archive captures from 2008 and 2011 show Thugangel.de as an info page for the documentary, featuring the DVD’s English promotional text. In March 2016, only a web host’s placeholder page appeared under the domain. After that, the site was no longer accessible.
