New Album Details: Who Was Supposed to Appear on Pac's Life in 2006

Chamillionaire, Big Daddy Kane, and 50 Cent: in September 2006, big names circulated for Pac's Life, but in the end, only one made the album.

Chamillionaire, Big Daddy Kane, and 50 Cent on a new 2Pac record: On September 15, 2006, the site, then running as Thuglove.de and United-Tupac.Com, reported initial details about the next posthumous album. According to US music network BET, the three rappers were slated to appear on it. A release in the fall of 2006 was being discussed.

No Return on the Tenth Anniversary

The post linked the report to a theory widespread at the time: Tupac would return exactly ten years after his death, on September 13, 2006, perhaps with this very album. A regular fall release date, the author concluded, rendered that hope moot. The anniversary indeed passed without any surprise. Tupac had died in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996, from the consequences of the shooting on September 7, and nothing about that had changed.

No. 9 for Tupac’s Last Studio Album

The album was released on November 21, 2006, under the title Pac’s Life on Amaru Entertainment and Interscope. With around 159,000 copies sold in its first week, it debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. Pac’s Life remained Tupac’s final posthumous studio album.

Of Three Guest Stars, Only Chamillionaire Made the Cut

Of the three names from the BET report, only Chamillionaire was there in the end: he rapped alongside Young Buck on “Sleep.” 50 Cent and Big Daddy Kane were missing from the tracklist. Instead, artists who made appearances included T.I., Ashanti, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Keyshia Cole, Krayzie Bone, Lil Scrappy, Papoose, Jay Rock, a then little-known Nipsey Hussle, and several members of the Outlawz.

The report was typical of the weeks leading up to Pac’s Life: guest lists circulated in many versions, and only some of them were confirmed. How the other rumors turned out is shown in the archive reports on the first single, the alleged song “International” with Zola, and the preliminary tracklist.
