"Elated and Relieved": Tupac's Family After the Verdict Against Davis
Relief after the verdict against Davis: Tupac's family thanks the jury, honors Afeni Shakur, and emphasizes that this is not the end of the story.
Immediately after the verdict, family members in the courtroom had already reacted with emotion. One day after the guilty verdict against Duane “Keffe D” Davis, Tupac’s family spoke publicly: “The family of Tupac Amaru Shakur is elated and relieved by today’s verdict,” the statement read. Billboard and Rolling Stone quoted it.
Thanks to the Jury, Tribute to Afeni Shakur
In it, the family thanked the jury for its attention to the evidence. Their gratitude also went to the relatives, friends, and fans who supported them over the years, as well as the marshals and helpers who protected them in court. The family paid special tribute to his mother, Afeni Shakur, and her decades-long commitment to her son and his legacy.
Civil Lawsuit Filed, Verdict Not Yet Final
During the trial, Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa Shakur had described her expectations of justice as low. The family has also filed a civil lawsuit against Davis (see the report of April 28). The conviction is not yet final.
