2008 Police Interview Admissible Against Davis
Despite an earlier promise of immunity: Judge Carli Kierny admits the 2008 police interview in the murder trial against Duane 'Keffe D' Davis.
“Nothing you say today can be used against you.” An investigator said these words to Duane “Keffe D” Davis in 2008, according to court documents. In late July 2026, however, Judge Carli Kierny ruled otherwise: the police interview from back then may be used in the murder trial.
The defense wanted to block the interview
The defense team led by Michael Sanft had tried to keep the conversation under seal. Davis had reportedly been assured at the time that his statements could not be used against him. The prosecution countered that Davis was obligated to give a truthful account. In addition, the defense disputes the value of the statements, saying Davis shaped the book and his appearances for entertainment and to make money.
Davis’s own words become the central evidence
The Source and AllHipHop reported the decision. This makes Davis’s own words, in the book and in interviews, the central piece of evidence. The trial was scheduled to begin on August 10. For the backstory: The investigation.
