Lawsuit Over "White Man'z World": Khalid Muhammad's Estate Demands Millions
Five million dollars per violation: Khalid Muhammad's heirs sue Tupac's label over unlicensed speech samples on the Makaveli album.
Five million dollars per violation, plus attorney’s fees and an injunction: with this demand, media reported in late July 2025 on three federal lawsuits filed in California by the estate of Dr. Khalid Abdul Muhammad. The allegation: excerpts of his speeches were used in music without a license, including in Tupac’s “White Man’z World” on the posthumous album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, in Public Enemy’s “Night of the Living Baseheads,” and in D’Angelo’s “1000 Deaths.”
Not Against Tupac, but Against the Administrators
Muhammad’s sister Gloria Valson emphasized that the lawsuit was not directed against Tupac himself; responsible were those who managed his music after his death. Attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz spoke of a matter of recognition and payment.
Tupac’s estate did not comment in the reports; the lawsuits are undecided. The legal situation surrounding Tupac’s catalog is described in Legal cases.
