Confessions as “Entertainment”: Davis Requests Release
His past statements were merely “entertainment”: Duane Davis requests bail of up to $100,000. Prosecutors consider him the “shot-caller.”
His own statements in a book and interviews had merely been “entertainment” and served financial gain: On December 19, 2023, court-appointed defense attorneys for Duane Davis requested that their client be released pending trial-fitted with an electronic ankle monitor and on bail of no more than $100,000.
Neither Flight Risk nor Independent Evidence
Davis was neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community, the defense argued. In addition, he had suffered from colon cancer, currently in remission, and jail conditions were harming his health. Aside from those accounts, prosecutors had presented no independent evidence connecting him to the crime; the remaining evidence relied largely on hearsay.
Prosecutors Consider Davis the “Shot-Caller”
On December 28, prosecutors pushed back: Davis had “confessed over and over again” to being responsible, and now wanted the court to ignore his words. He had been the “shot-caller.”
The hearing was scheduled for January 2, 2024, see the report from January 2. Background: The Investigation.
