Two nominations at the 75th Creative Arts Emmys for the doc on Tupac and Afeni Shakur-yet in the end, the five-part FX series walked away empty-handed.
Two chances at an Emmy: When the Television Academy announced the nominations for the 75th Primetime Creative Arts Emmys on July 12, 2023, Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur was represented twice. Several producers were nominated for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, including director Allen Hughes. Hughes and Lasse Järvi also received a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program.
The Award Goes to “The 1619 Project”
Also competing in the series category were 100 Foot Wave (HBO), Secrets of the Elephants (National Geographic), The 1619 Project (Hulu), and The U.S. and the Holocaust (PBS). According to the Television Academy database, The 1619 Project won the award in this category.
For the five-part production, which had begun on FX in April, it ultimately remained just a nomination. More on the series: Dear Mama.
