Powamekka Café: Tupac's Restaurant Idea as a Pop-Up in Los Angeles

For Tupac's 51st birthday, his estate brought the Powamekka Café to Los Angeles: a pop-up restaurant based on Tupac's own sketches.

Directly across from the exhibition Wake Me When I’m Free at L.A. Live, a pop-up restaurant opened on June 16, 2022. For Tupac’s 51st birthday, his estate brought the “Powamekka Café” to Los Angeles for a limited time. The operation was created in collaboration with Fixins Soul Kitchen.

A Restaurant Based on Tupac’s Sketches

The idea came from Tupac himself. According to estate trustee Tom Whalley, whom AllHipHop quotes from the first edition, he wanted a restaurant and sketched plans as well as a menu concept.

The first realization took place in 2017 as a pop-up in New York, at Sweet Chick owned by Nas and John Seymour, together with Bravado, Universal Music Group’s merchandise company. The café in Los Angeles also ran for a limited time only. On Tupac’s other business ideas: His companies.
