The 2Pacalypse Now Release Party: 18 Photos as NFTs

With a disposable camera, Lawrence Dotson captured Tupac's first album party in 1992. Nearly 30 years later, he offered the images as NFTs.

A young photographer, a disposable camera with black-and-white film, and only a few guests: when Tupac celebrated his debut 2Pacalypse Now at the club Glam Slam in Los Angeles in 1992, the crowd was modest. Journalist Lawrence “Loupy D” Dotson captured the release party and turned his photos into NFTs in November 2021.

A Spontaneous Invitation

At the time, Dotson was selling his magazine No Sellout on the street in L.A. Tupac took a copy and invited him to the party. As Dotson recalls, attendees were mostly industry people and a few from the underground scene.

18 Photos on OpenSea

Dotson offered the 18 NFTs on the platform OpenSea. Seventeen photos show Tupac; the eighteenth is a collage of all of them. According to Rolling Stone, each NFT also comes with a signed, framed print.

Part of the proceeds is to be used to plant trees in Tupac’s hometown. Out of the 1992 photos, a tangible piece of the present thus grows.
