Madonna loses the fight over Tupac's breakup letter

The dispute over Tupac’s breakup letter is decided. On April 23, 2018, Judge Gerald Lebovits of the Manhattan Supreme Court dismissed Madonna’s suit against her former friend Darlene Lutz and lifted the temporary order (for the beginning see auction halted). The prison letter and 21 other items may be sold. Bidding on the letter had already reached $100,000 in July 2017.

Too late, and claims waived

In his reasoning the judge wrote, according to Billboard and Rolling Stone, that Madonna knew Lutz held parts of her property during their relationship. She never demanded their return. She had also waived claims in a 2004 agreement. The Guardian adds that he questioned why she had not gone after her own assistants.
